Tanzania’s agriculture is under pressure. Farmers
face challenges from unpredictable weather, land
degradation, and farming methods that harm the
environment. The 2021 Agricultural Census showed
that 18 out of every 100 farmers see climate change
as their biggest problem. Other major issues include
the high cost of farming inputs and limited access to
land.
Agroforestry, which means growing trees alongside
crops or animals, is one of the best ways to tackle
these problems. It improves soil, provides food,
supports biodiversity, and helps farmers adapt to
climate change. Tanzania has already shown
commitment through the National Agroforestry
Strategy 2024 to 2031. But this strategy needs
stronger support to succeed.
